Is It Time To Go Ductless?

Ductless air conditioners are more popular than ever, and there are good reasons for this. Many property owners are unsure of the difference between a ductless air conditioning system and a central air system, but they actually both have different benefits.

What is ductless air conditioning?

A ductless air conditioner system works just like a regular air conditioner, but it does so without the ducts. It consists of an outdoor unit and an indoor unit which are connected by tubing and electrical wiring. The indoor unit will blow out the required air directly to the room without the use of ductwork.

What are the benefits?

Cost-Effective – Ductwork can be expensive to install. Ductless air conditioning systems are a cost-effective alternative. It can also save costs on heating as in the colder months you can use the system to provide heat.

Easier Installation – Ductwork installation can be time-consuming and complex. With ductless air conditioning, you have multiple air handlers in different rooms that can be set to your specifications.

Heat Pump Reversal – Ductless air conditioning systems work as heat pumps. They use refrigerated lines to take heat from your home and transfer it outside. This process can be reversed during the colder month, meaning heat will be taken from the outside and transferred to the inside of the building. This can therefore lower your energy usage and costs.

Back-Up – A ductless mini-split system has additional air handlers that could still operate when one of the others is faulty. It is always best to contact a technician in this situation, but it is good to know you have emergency back-ups in place should the unlikely occur.

Customise – As each ductless air handler is separate, you can customise the temperatures of each one easily to suit your needs.

Climate changes and higher temperatures most of the year-round have meant that London is getting warmer. Summers are hotter and drier and the added impact of the Urban Heat Island effect (UHI) means that congested areas such as London can be as much as 10 degrees warmer than other rural areas. It is important that office spaces, work environments such as factories as well as homes are well equipped to manage heat risk all year round. It is all well and good having a window ajar or a fan going in a stuffy environment, but this is not enough if you want to keep your surroundings clean, fresh and healthy at all times.

An indoor environment that does not have a flow of fresh, cool air could cause problems for people with certain conditions, such as allergies, asthma or cardiovascular issues. The elderly and the under-fives are also more vulnerable to heat risks so it is important to ensure the temperature of your building is not going to cause any harm or discomfort to those who are vulnerable. A professional and well-maintained air conditioning system will keep your building healthy with consistent fresh air.
